Description: | This painting depicting a half-length figure of Christ being led to Calvary is by the prolific Neapolitan artist, Luca Giordano and probably dates from late in his career. This painting was one of the first to be acquired by the museum in Derby, as part of bequest from Joseph Strutt, a wealthy silk manufacturer and former Mayor. Strutt was responsible for opening Thorntree House, his own property in St Peter's Street, Derby, as an art gallery and museum to benefit the town's citizens and to encourage the appreciation of works of art. | Subjects: | figure; religion (Christ Led to Calvary; Passion) | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Giordano, Luca (Italian painter, 1634-1705, active in Italy and Spain) Æ | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8751... | Go to resource |
