Description: | The figure of the young Christ gesticulating as he disputes with the doctors has probably been cut off from a much larger canvas at an unknown date and for unknown reasons. Jusepe (or Giuseppe) de Ribera, called Lo Spagnoletto, seems to have painted this same scene twice, with about life-size figures. The complete picture (probably the first version) is in the Kunsthistorisches Museum at Vienna (no. 345). The figure as it is now is only the right-hand side of the complete composition, while on the left the doctors to whom Christ is speaking would appear. | Subjects: | figure; religion (Christ) | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Ribera, Jusepe de (Spanish painter and printmaker, baptized in 1591, died 1652, active in Italy) Æ After | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8754... | Go to resource |
