Description: | Although the composition of the painting seems to appear rather like an Italian versions of the subject, the bright colouring and the execution are clearly Spanish. Luis Tristan repeated this composition several times. The Virgin and the Child are shown within a building that in part is a classical architecture, while the roof seems to be an improvised hut. The Kings approach in adoration on the right, and St Joseph is in the background. At the bottom left appears, as King David playing a harp, the portrait of a donor, or possibly the artist himself, as has been suggested. | Subjects: | figure; religion (Virgin and Child Adoration of the Magi) | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Tristán de Escamilla, Luis (Spanish painter, ca. 1587-1624) Æ | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8762... | Go to resource |
