Description: | This panel is in a tradition going back to Giovanni Bellini and shows clear references to the art of Giorgione and the young Titian working together at Venice around 1500. The Madonna is holding the standing Child which, with one foot, is climbing onto her hand which is placed on a barrier in front, thus forming an elegant contrapposto. She is placed in front of a wall, on the right partly covered by a curtain while the left side opens a window-like view onto a landscape typical of Venetian paintings around 1500. The landscape itself is clearly of a giorgionesque inspiration. | Subjects: | figure; religion (Virgin and Child) | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Capriolo, Domenico (Italian painter, ca.1494-1528) Æ Attributed to Previously attributed to school of Palma, Jacopo, il vecchio (Italian painter, ca. 1479-1528) Previously attributed to Pordenone (Italian draftsman and painter, born 1483 or 1484, died 1539) | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8793... | Go to resource |
