Description: | Signed: yes Description: This painting is typical of Corot's late landscapes which evoke the atmosphere rather than the detail of the contemporary countryside. In the foreground a red-hatted woodcutter is busy working on the many branches scattered around him. A small group of figures - presumably other woodcutters - can be glimpsed between the trees. Striking notes of pink blue and green suggest wild flowers growing in the foreground and Corot has used the end of his brush to scratch into the still wet paint to suggest further tendrils of vegetation. With a clearly defined foreground, middle ground and background this painting is classical in its composition, however it is Pre-Impressionist in its handling and observation of light. | Subjects: | landscape; figure; everyday life | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Corot, Jean-Baptiste-Camille (French painter and draftsman, 1796-1875) Æ | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8823... | Go to resource |
