Description: | This painting shows the king of France, Henry IV (1553-1610). It has been attributed to the Flemish artist Frans Pourbus, a portrait painter at the French court from 1606. It is certainly related to other portraits of the king attributed to this artist, and does have a French provenance, but it is probably a slightly later copy. Henry IV was one of France's most successful monarchs; he brought the country successfully out of the Wars of Religion as well as making important moves to strengthen the French monarchy. He was assassinated by an enemy whilst caught in a Paris traffic-jam. | Subjects: | portrait (Henry IV of France) | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Pourbus, Frans, the younger (Flemish painter, 1569-1622) Æ Attributed to after Attributed to Pourbus, Frans, the younger (Flemish painter, 1569-1622) | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8851... | Go to resource |
