Description: | This is a fine copy of Raphael's popular painting of the Virgin and Child that is now in the Pitti Palace, Florence. An inscription on the back of the painting tells us that it was either painted or authenticated by the custodian of this museum, E. Pieracani. The wax stamp of the museum also found on the back of the painting suggests it was the latter; thus the painting was probably a high class souvenir which the Whitley family could have purchased whilst visiting Florence. | Subjects: | religion (Virgin and Child); figure | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Italian (Florentine) School Æ After Raphael (Italian painter and draftsman, 1483-1520) | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8867... | Go to resource |
