Description: | This is a copy of a portrait painted by Marcus Gheeraerts the Younger, Catherine Killigrew, Lady Jermyn. However, there are marked differences between this work and the original. Most notably the oval design has been abandoned and although the design of the clothing has been followed quite closely, the lace is far less intricate on the Bury painting. The face is also considerably changed as the eyes of the sitter in the Bury painting are much fuller and look slightly to the left, whereas in the original the sitter looks directly at the viewer. Catherine Killigrew married Sir Thomas Rushbrook in 1599 and he probably commissioned the original portrait on the occasion of his inheritance of Rushbrook in 1614. | Subjects: | portrait (Jermyn Lady Catherine) | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Geeraerts, Marcus, the younger (Flemish painter, 1561-1635, active in England) Æ Attributed to after | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8872... | Go to resource |
