Description: | Philips Wouwerman painted many landscapes, which often recall the scenery near his native Haarlem and typically include figures and horses. Wouwerman enjoyed great success in his own lifetime and his enormous popularity continued well into the nineteenth century. It is owing to this popularity that Wouwerman had many followers and imitators. This painting was purportedly signed by Wouwerman, and includes typical characteristics of Wouwerman's landscapes. However, it is now thought that it was instead painted by another artist working Wouwerman's style, perhaps in the eighteenth century. | Subjects: | landscape; figure; animal (horse) | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Dutch School Æ Imitator of Wouwerman, Philips (Dutch painter, 1619-1668) Previously attributed to Wouwerman, Philips (Dutch painter, 1619-1668) | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8889... | Go to resource |
