Description: | Although the Holy Family appear in an everyday setting, the items on their table have religious meaning, such as the bread which recalls the Last Supper and the Eucharist. Small dots visible around the bread and the cherries were made when the artist transferred his drawing to the prepared panel, by pricking the lines of the cartoon and 'pouncing' charcoal through the holes. This technique facilitated the production of replica images in an artist's workshop. Although Adrien Ysenbrandt is known to have been a successful and prominent artist, there are no signed or documented paintings and many questions remain about his work. | Subjects: | Christ religion (Holy Family Virgin St Joseph) Madonna | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Ysenbrandt, Adrien (Flemish painter, ca. 1500-before 1551) Æ | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8889... | Go to resource |
