Description: | The gentleman in this portrait is shown wearing late sixteenth-century costume and this painting was probably copied from an earlier portrait. The figure is presented three-quarter length. The sitter turns to his right to look out beyond the viewer. The wealth of the sitter is conveyed through his being dressed in black, then the most expensive dye to produce, and his collar being edged with finely worked lace. The stiff presentation of the sitter was a typical feature of Spanish portraiture in the late sixteenth century. | Subjects: | portrait | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Spanish School Æ | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8903... | Go to resource |
