Description: | The Virgin and Child are shown sitting on a flower-adorned lawn before a Veneto landscape. Two angels, placed either side of this central group, crown the Virgin. This work is typical of the fifteenth-century Venetian school in its use of colour. Following traditional iconography, the Virgin wears a blue robe, richly adorned with gold thread, over a red dress. This rich ornamentation of the dress exemplifies Venetian sensitivity to the visual qualities of colour and texture. | Subjects: | religion (Virgin and Child angel); figure; landscape | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Bastiani, Lazzaro (Italian painter, born before 1430, died 1512) Æ Attributed to school of Attributed to school of Vivarini, Bartolomeo (Italian painter and draftsman, active from ca. 1440, died after 1500) Previously attributed to Andrea da Murano (Italian painter, active 1462-1502) Previously attributed to Bastiani, Lazzaro (Italian painter, born before 1430, died 1512) Previously attributed to Mantegna, Andrea (Italian painter, ca. 1431-1506) Previously attributed to Vivarini, Bartolomeo (Italian painter and draftsman, active from ca. 1440, died after 1500) | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8914... | Go to resource |
