Description: | The costume of the young sitter in this portrait indicates that it was painted in the late sixteenth or early seventeenth century, possibly as a copy of an earlier work. The full-length format, the composition and the linear style recall the type of portrait produced by Flemish and Spanish painters for the Spanish court. The unknown painter possibly followed models established by Alonso Sánchez Coello, who specialised in portraits of children in the period 1550-88. The young boy is shown dressed as an adult, although his pike would have been seen as a toy rather than as the attribute of a warrior. | Subjects: | portrait | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Sánchez Coello, Alonso (Spanish painter, ca.1531-1588) Æ Attributed to school of Attributed to Spanish School | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8939... | Go to resource |
