Description: | The Franciscan friar writing with a quill in an open book, while the dove of the Holy Ghost hovers above, is Saint Peter of Alcántara. He corresponded with Teresa of Avila and, like Saint Teresa, he wrote about his mystical visions. This painting was probably produced after his canonisation in 1669. It was thought to be a copy after a painting by Francisco Zurbarán which has not been identified. | Subjects: | religion (St Peter of Alcántara) | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Zurbarán, Francisco de (Spanish painter, 1598-1664) Æ Attributed to school of Previously attributed to after Zurbarán, Francisco de (Spanish painter, 1598-1664) Previously attributed to Murillo, Bartolomé Estebán (Spanish painter and draftsman, 1618-1682) Previously attributed to Zurbarán, Francisco de (Spanish painter, 1598-1664) | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8956... | Go to resource |
