Description: | The subject of this devotional painting is the Madonna of the Veil. The Virgin lifts the cloth that covers the Christ child, who stretches his arms towards the dove of the Holy Spirit. The strong chiaroscuro (extreme contrasts of light and dark) and the dark palette, as well as the iconographic type of the Virgin, seem to justify the current attribution of this work to the Italian school and its seventeenth-century dating. A more precise attribution has not been ventured so far. | Subjects: | religion (Virgin and Child) | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Italian School Æ Attributed to | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8976... | Go to resource |
