Description: | Louise-Françoise de La Baume le Blanc, Duchess of La Vallière (1644-1710) became mistress of Louis XIV of France in the 1660s. She had previously served as maid of honour to his sister, Henrietta Anne of England. In 1671, after she was replaced by Madame de Montespan, Louise La Vallière took refuge in the convent of Chaillot. A painting by Pierre Mignard dated that year represents the King's former mistress as the Penitent Magdalene. The same subject was painted by Jean Charles Nocret and by Nicolas Loire. This picture is probably a copy after one of those portraits. | Subjects: | portrait (De La Baume le Blanc Duchess of La Vallière); religion (Mary Magdalene) Louise-Françoise | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: French School Æ | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8997... | Go to resource |
