Description: | This portrait represents Caroline Ferdinande Louis de Bourbon, Duchesse de Berri (1798-1870), daughter of Ferdinand I, King of the two Sicilies, daughter in law of Charles X of France, having married Charles Ferdinand, Duc de Berri (1778-1820). It is a copy, attributed to Court, of an original portrait done in 1825 by Thomas Lawrence, entitled Marie Caroline, Duchesse de Berri. The Duchess was a famous society hostess whose elegance was renowned. Her husband was assassinated in 1820 at the time she was expecting their son, the Comte de Chambord. It was through him that she had pretensions to the throne of France, but her efforts came to nothing. | Subjects: | portrait (Duchesse de Berri) | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Lawrence, Thomas (British painter, 1769-1830) Æ After Attributed to Court, Joseph-Désiré (French painter and museum director, 1797-1865) | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=9000... | Go to resource |
