Description: | In this oval painting, Louis Antoine de Bourbon, Duc d'Angoulême, is portrayed in full regalia that includes a blue sash and silver epaulettes. He wears the decorations of the Order of the Holy Spirit, the Order of Saint Louis, and the Golden Fleece. François Josephe Kinsoen was appointed painter to the Duc on his return to Paris, after the fall of the French empire in 1813. The type of sober, heroic portrait which Kinsoen had developed to suit the taste of Napoleon's court was also favoured during the Bourbon restoration, in which the Duc played a significant role. | Subjects: | portrait (Duc d'Angoulême) | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Kinsoen, Francois Josephe (Belgian artist, 1771-1839) Æ | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=9006... | Go to resource |
