Description: | This portrait shows the upper part of a full-length portrait, of which the original is probably the version kept at Trianon (Versailles), painted by van Loo in 1761. Louis XV (1710-1774) is represented here wearing his coronation robes. The blue gown is embroidered with fleur-de-lys, a symbol of royalty. The king also wears around his neck the order of the Holy Ghost, the most prestigious order given to French knights, which recalls the military function of the king. This order is represented by the star just below the ermine, and includes in its center an image of a dove, recalling the Holy Ghost descending on Clovis, the first Christian king of the French. | Subjects: | portrait (Louis XV) | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Loo, Louis Michel van (French painter, 1707-1771) Æ Attributed to after Attributed to Loo, Louis Michel van (French painter, 1707-1771) | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=9027... | Go to resource |
