Description: | The unknown sitter in this portrait was represented at thirty-five years of age. She wears a stiff, black low-cut bodice decorated with fine white lace, a large starched head-dress, and a fine black veil which falls over her high white collar. She holds what may be a prayer-book. This painting can be ascribed to the French school because of its provenance, but it has yet to be attributed to a specific artist. The anonymous painter worked in a linear style with a subdued palette, and favoured the three-quarter-length frontal portrait format which was popularised by Marcus Geeraerts the Younger in the same period. | Subjects: | portrait | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: French School Æ Attributed to | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=9028... | Go to resource |
