Description: | Signed: yes Description: A pupil of Camille Corot, Lépine's technique was similarly delicate and precise. In subject matter, however, he was renowned for painting the banks of the Seine in the centre of Paris and in its suburbs. This work was probably an early study made in one of the more rural wooded areas on the edge of the city. The loose brushwork and the paper support indicate that it was a preparatory work. The artist's skill is still demonstrated, however, in his depiction of the light filtering through the trees. Unsurprisingly, he would later participate in the first Impressionist exhibition in 1874. | Subjects: | landscape | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Lépine, Stanislas (French painter, 1835-1892) Æ | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=9049... | Go to resource |
