Description: | Unusually, this work was painted on linen and was possibly intended as part of a banner. It shows Christ crucified with Mary and the Saints. The background shows a rocky landscape and a city with figures of soldiers and men on horseback. The figure of Christ in this painting strongly resembles that of a similar Crucifixion scene attributed to Bergonone in the Lord Lee Collection. The composition and, especially, the figure of Mary Magdalene closely resembles a Crucifixion in the Church at Ceratosa, Pavia. This scene also features the stick-like figures going about their daily business in the town in the background. | Subjects: | religion (Crucifixion St Mary Magdalene) Virgin St John | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Bergognone, Ambrogio (Italian painter, ca. 1460-1523) Æ | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=9165... | Go to resource |
