Description: | This small wooden triptych is fourteenth-century in composition and layout but fifteenth-century in date. The images have been enhanced with tooled gold. The central panel shows the Coronation of the Virgin by two winged angels. Above this image, in the arch, is depicted the Crucifixion, featuring the Virgin and Mary Magdalen. In the side panels appear two male saints, probably Francis of Assisi on the left, because of his stigmata, and Dominic on the right, holding a lily and the Gospels (bound in a book). Above them the Annunciation is depicted, with the Virgin kneeling to the left and the Angel Gabriel to the right. | Subjects: | religion (Virgin and Child; Annunciation; Coronation; Crucifixion; St Francis of Assisi; St Dominic) | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Italian (Sienese) School Æ Attributed to Attributed to manner of Vecchietta (Italian painter and sculptor, ca.1412-1480) Attributed to manner of Sano di Pietro (Italian painter and miniaturist, 1405-1481) | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=9192... | Go to resource |
