Description: | This miniature roundel nameplate was originally on a ticket hall passimeter at Bethnal Green Underground station. A passimeter was ticket booth where incoming passengers could either buy tickets or have them checked by the duty clerk.
Bethnal Green station did not open until 1946, although it had been completed before the outbreak of the Second World War. During the war the station was used as an air-raid shelter. On 3 March 1943, 173 people were killed as they sought shelter there. | Format: | image/jpeg | Publisher: | London Transport Museum | Rights holder: | Transport for London | Subjects: | Transport | Temporal: | 1946 | Source: | London Transport Museum | Identifier: | http://www.20thcenturylondon.org.uk/rser... | Language: | en-GB | Format: | image/jpeg | Go to resource |
