Description: | These brick baffle walls with canvas-covered concrete roofs were designed to protect Blackfriars Underground station from bomb blasts. These walls were often painted with black and white paint so that they could be seen in the Blackout.
This entrance is at the junction of New Bridge Street and Queen Victoria Street. The ornate building in the background is Unilever House.
The concrete military pillbox on the left is probably guarding the approach to Blackfriars Bridge. | Format: | image/jpeg | Publisher: | London Transport Museum | Rights holder: | Transport for London | Subjects: | Transport London at War Cityscape | Temporal: | 14 Aug 1944 | Source: | London Transport Museum | Identifier: | http://www.20thcenturylondon.org.uk/rser... | Language: | en-GB | Format: | image/jpeg | Go to resource |
