Description: | This advertisement was published by the Underground in 1952. It appeared in 'Commercial Motor' and 'Motor Transport' in March. It publicises the Coast-to-Coast American Goodwill Tour which ran from March to July. The symbolic red RT- type bus was often used to promote tourism in London in the early 1950s, this promotional tour of America endeavoured to encourage people abroad to visit the British capital.
Three London buses embarked on the 8,000-mile coast-to-coast tour of the U.S.A. One was fitted out as a mobile exhibition and information bureau for the British Travel and Holidays Association's 'Come to Britain' campaign. A second acted as a crew-bus and workshop. The third was run as a typical No. 11 London bus, complete with route numbers, destination equipment and fare-table.
