Description: | To mark Queen Elizabeth II's Silver Jubilee, 25 Routemaster buses were painted silver. The interiors were also refurbished and the aisles fitted with a specially designed wool carpet, which the staff in the photo are admiring.
The carpet featured the London Transport logo, modified for Jubilee year. There was also a logo with a crown and the dome of St Paul's cathedral. This was the symbol of the London Celebrations Committee, which had organised many events to celebrate the occasion.
The logo on the right is the Woolmark. The pure new wool Wilton carpets were the gift of the International Wool Secretariat. The carpets were made for London Transport by Thomson Shepherd Carpets Limited of Dundee, Scotland. | Format: | image/jpeg | Publisher: | London Transport Museum | Rights holder: | Transport for London | Subjects: | Identity and Icons | Temporal: | Mar 1977 | Source: | London Transport Museum | Identifier: | http://www.20thcenturylondon.org.uk/rser... | Language: | en-GB | Format: | image/jpeg | Go to resource |
