Description: | Len Phillips was a child in London during the Blitz. He lived with his parents and older sister on Rosebery Avenue in Clerkenwell.
When an air raid was imminent in London, the warning sirens would sound. It was hoped that the sirens would give people enough time to find shelter.
Like many Londoners, Len and his family sheltered in Underground stations. It was often difficult for elderly and disabled people to get down into Underground shelters.
Len remembers that often his disabled father would be left at home during the raids. | Format: | image/jpeg | Publisher: | London Transport Museum | Rights holder: | Transport for London | Subjects: | Communities London at War | Temporal: | 1940-1949 | Source: | London Transport Museum | Identifier: | http://www.20thcenturylondon.org.uk/rser... | Language: | en-GB | Format: | image/jpeg | Go to resource |
