Description: St John (from a Calvary group), carved wood in the round. St John, enveloped in the deep folds of his mantle, which reveals his left leg and foot, clasps his hands in grief. His head is thrown back, his curling hair falling on his shoulders, his neck is thin and his face is hollowed with anguish, accentuated by the sharp lines of the aquiline nose and pointed chin. His mantle is buttoned at the neck, above which a plain high collar projects. | Format: | text/html | License: | http://www.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/terms.htm | Publisher: | The Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, UK | Rights holder: | The Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, UK | Subjects: | sculpture figure Unknown | Temporal: | name=4th quarter 15th century; start=1475; end=1500 | Source: | Fitzwilliam Museum | Creator: | The Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, UK | Identifier: | http://www.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/opacdire... | Language: | en-GB | Format: | text/html | Go to resource |
