Exterior view of the old Manston Church, dedicated to St. James, seen from the south-west. The church was consecrated by the Bishop of Ripon, Dr. C.T. Longley, on 4th November 1847, and its first incumbent was the Rev. Hugh Staples Hamilton who held the position for 50 years. By the early 20th century the church had become too small for the growing population and a new church was built to the side. This church was closed in 1913 when the new one opened and was subsequently demolished by 1925. | License: | http://www.leodis.net/article.aspx?id=12 | Rights holder: | Leeds Central Library | Subjects: | Church Lane St. James' Church Manston Church | Source: | Leodis - A photographic archive of Leeds | Identifier: | http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?id=20... | Go to resource |
