Description: | Artist: Unknown, silversmith; Date(s): 1730 - 1760; Classification(s): boxes, snuff box, carving, The tortoiseshell was carved from a turtle shell, which was heated and pressed to form the lid and base. The lid was inlaid with mother-of-pearl, and engraved silver and brass. The silver parts of the box were soldered and the hinge was pinned to the base and mount. The tortoise shell lid was set into the mount. [RTR.M.14]
