Description: Thomas Scott-Ellis, the 8th Baron Howard de Walden, was as well as being a peer of the realm, a motorboat racer and a collector of armour, a playwright and patron of the theatre. Thus it was that he established in 1931 a prize with the Royal Academy of Music to be awarded annually for best performance in drama at the Academy. The prize is still awarded today, and takes the form of a bronze medal designed by Allan Gairdner Wyon. This example is a specimen of the design in bronze from Wyon's workshop. The original dies now reside with the Academy. | Format: | text/html | License: | http://www.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/terms.htm | Publisher: | The Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, UK | Rights holder: | The Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, UK | Subjects: | Allan Gairdner medal Lord Howard de Walden Prize for Drama Wyon | Source: | Fitzwilliam Museum | Creator: | The Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, UK | Identifier: | http://www.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/opacdire... | Language: | en-GB | Format: | text/html | Go to resource |
