Description: | Darlington Street at the junctions with Victoria Street and North Street. The department store James Beattie stands on the corner of Darlington Street and Victoria Street. The Wolverhampton Town Show in West Park is clearly advertised across the street. Bus No. 501, advertising the Mander Shopping Centre, makes its way up Darlington Street on its way to the Bus Station in Pipers Row. Further down Darlington Street on the left can be seen the distictive front towers of the Methodist Chapel, and the spire of St. Mark's Church, Chapel Ash, in the distance. Darlington Street was cut through in 1821 and named after Lord Darlington, who later sold the land to the Town Commissioners. | License: | http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.0/uk/ | Publisher: | Wolverhampton Archives | Rights holder: | Wolverhampton Archives | Subjects: | Retail stores Photograph Photographs Buildings Streets | Temporal: | Aug 1996 | Source: | Black Country History | Identifier: | http://www.blackcountryhistory.org/colle... | Go to resource |
