Description: | Darlington Street at the junctions with Victoria Street and North Street. Further down Darlington Street on the left can be seen the distictive front towers of the Methodist Chapel, and the spire of St. Mark's Church, Chapel Ash, in the distance. On the corner on the right are the premises of the Sewing Machine Centre. On the opposite corner stands Burtons the tailors. Next to them in Darlington Street is the department store James Beattie (who later took over Burtons when they vacated the premises). Darlington Street was cut through in 1821 and named after Lord Darlington, who later sold the land to the Town Commissioners. | License: | http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.0/uk/ | Publisher: | Wolverhampton Archives | Rights holder: | Wolverhampton City Council | Subjects: | Retail stores Photograph Photographs Buildings Streets | Temporal: | Sep 17 1975 | Source: | Black Country History | Identifier: | http://www.blackcountryhistory.org/colle... | Go to resource |
