Description: | French War Cross (Croix De Guerre). Awarded by the French to French and Allied soldiers who were cited for their service, Awarded to Private Frederick Yarnold of the South Staffordshire Regiment. The medal is a bronze cross with two swords crossed between the arms. The central section bears the symbolic image of the French Repulic, a woman in a Phrygian cap. Around the edges of the central circle are the words "REPUBLIQUE FRANCAIS". The back of the cross bears the dates 1914 -1917. The ribbon is green with seven red vertical stripes, and this medal has a bronze star on the ribbon, signifying that its owner was mentioned at brigade or regimental level for his gallantry. The medal was designed by Paul-Albert Bartholome.
