Description: | The medal is circular, 3.6cm in diameter, and made of cupro-nickel. The obverse depicts the crowned head of King George VI with the legend 'GEORGIVS VI D: G: BR: OMN: REX ET INDIAE IMP:'. The reverse shows a victorious lion standing on a defeated two headed dragon (the axis powers) with the dates 1939 -1945 above. The ribbon has red, white and blue stripes to symbolise the Union Flag. William (Bill) Higgins was born in May Street, Walsall, in 1916 and lived in Walsall throughout his life. He was a builder by trade, and became a Councillor for Walsall from 1972 - 1982. He served in the Territorials, then in the 5th and 6th South Staffordshire Regiments.
