Title: Windsor Road, Slough. About 1910 [Go to resource]
Description: A view of Windsor Road looking north, with Slough Baptist Church on the left, Observatory House on the right and the Grapes Public House in the distance. The astronomer Sir William Herschel (1738-1822), who discovered Uranus, lived in Observatory House from 1786 until his death; the Herschel family continued to live there until 1957. The house was demolished in 1963. The Baptist Church was built in 1905 by Henry Flint of High Wycombe, who also built St. Paul's Church in Stoke Road. The date of 1910 is handwritten on the front of the postcard. The postcard was published by Thomas Grace, Wholesale Stationer, Slough.
