Description: | "Jimmy Logan (Jimmy Short, 1928 ? 2001), actor, comedian, and musician, came of a
stage family. From early in his life, JL was performing in shows and pantomimes, and
until the end of his days was involved with everything to do with the theatre, mostly in
Scotland (especially Glasgow), from theatre ownership and management to performance.
The archive of his music consists of several different strands, divided here into three
sections. The main strands are music written or arranged for, and sometimes by, himself;
music which he inherited from members of his family or acquired from earlier
performers, notably Harry Lauder and Harry Gordon; material which appears to have
been submitted to him for possible performance (only some of which was used); and
arrangements of a wide spectrum of traditional music (mostly Scottish), music hall songs,
popular music of the big band era, and recent popular music from the Beatles to Tom
Jones."
