Description: | This collection includes over 3000 artefacts and artworks created in or acquired by students and staff of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design and its predecessor institutions (Dundee Technical Institute, Dundee Technical College & School of Art, Dundee Institute of Art & Technology, Dundee College of Art and Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art). The Art College began as part of the Technical Institute opened in 1888 with a full-time art master appointed in 1892. Although James Duncan of Jordanstone's bequest was made in 1909, a separate building for Dundee College of Art was not opened until 1955 and the name Duncan of Jordanstone adopted in 1962. In 1994 the College became part of the University of Dundee and its collections were accessioned by Museum Services.
