Description: | Groups of ladies and gentlemen stroll or ride across Westminster Bridge in London, whilst a poor woman sits on the kerb cradling her baby. The figures are drawn in outline in dark grey paint, in characteristic 18th-century watercolour style. Ancient houses with tall chimneys are crowded around Westminster Abbey on the far side of the bridge. In contrast, the road is lined with elegant classically-styled buildings. Thomas Malton was a London artist who specialised in watercolours of architectural subjects. | Publisher: | Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums | Temporal: | Production date: 1801 | Source: | Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums | Creator: | Thomas Malton | Identifier: | http://www.twmuseums.org.uk/artonline/se... | Go to resource |
