Description: | A distinctive feature of Michael Lloyd's work is his skilful use of silver in combination with gold. On the outside of the bowl the gold appears as a small detail in amongst a mass of silver; when viewed as a whole however, the interior works to highlight this detail. This piece is made from Britannia silver, a very pure form. The design was translated onto the silver using a technique known as chasing. Unlike engraving which removes silver from the surface, chasing moves the silver around the surface using a small instrument with a dull point. | Publisher: | Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums | Temporal: | Production date: 1994 | Source: | Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums | Creator: | Michael Lloyd | Identifier: | http://www.twmuseums.org.uk/artonline/se... | Go to resource |
