Description: | Jubilee Monolith erected 1887. Town Hall foundation stone laid 1891. (opened 1897). Therefore owing to the fact that the Town Hall is in process of construction, 1892 is a reasonable date. Between 1886 and 1892, when this photgraph was taken, the new Sheffield Town Hall was in the process of erection, and the scaffolding is seen on the right. It will be noticed that it is made out of wood. The monolith in the centre was transferred to one of the parks at a later date to make way for a statue of Queen Victoria. | License: | http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/2.0/uk/ |
