This locomotive was based at Rotherham (Canklow) depot and engines of this type were frequent visitors to Sheffield Midland, although this was one of only two B1s' present today. By mid-August steam locomotives no longer hauled these stopping passenger-trains. Note the barrow parked against the concrete post on the extreme left. This would be used by a station porter to carry passengers' luggage to or from the train. The train is a platform 5 departure and therefore probably going to Manchester Central. Despite the train passing colour- light signals in the foreground, the signal box was mechanically operated, one of two positioned at the southern end of the station. This one controlled semaphore signals and points around and ahead of the train. A postscript: 61315 was re-assigned sometime between February and May 1966, becoming part of Departmental stock and renumbered 32. The new role was unglamorous and confined to the local area. This consisted solely of providing steam heating, presumably for passenger carriages before their first use of the day. No. 32 was noted on 30 October 1966, a recent arrival at Messrs T.W.
