This current rectification and control component is an adaptation of the Fleming diode used to provide the DC current for X-ray tubes from AC supplies. It rectified the current and acted as a switch. It consists of 3 sets of anodes and cathodes connected in parallel in three glass envelopes connected by a tube at the end of which there is another electrode which when negative in respect to the anodes of the diode pairs will cause the resistance of the valve to become in effect infinite and the current will cease.
