DES after GEISSLER,Johann,Heinrich,Wilhelm. 1855 Bonn, Germany. This hand blown,ballustre shaped, glass envelope is a Gassiot's cascade tube. A modified form of the Geissler tube. The aluminium electrodes are so arranged that the discharge flows through a spiral inside the envelope into a uranium doped glass cup. It then cascades over the edge of the cup. The uranium (probably uranium hexa chloride) doped glass cup fluoresces brilliantly as the discharge flows over it. SEE also GLAHM 113754.
