Description: | None. DES The Atlantic Telegraph Company. 1857 22, Old Broad Street, London, England. MANU The Gutta-Percha Company 1857 London, England. MANU Messrs Glass Elliot and Company. 1857 Greenwhich, Kent, (now Greater london), England This is a section of the deep sea cable from the 1857 or 1858 laying of the Transatlantic Cable. It did not have any galvanic protection and the shore ends had heavier wire reinforcement. Unfortunately the two sections of cable had different lays and a splicing jig had to be hurriedly constructed. The cable was laid at the British end from Valentia in County Kerry, Ireland, to Trinity Bay on the East Coast of Newfoundland. | License: | http://www.hmag.gla.ac.uk/spirit/rights/ | Publisher: | Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, University of Glasgow | Rights holder: | Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, University of Glasgow | Subjects: | SCIENTIFIC COLLECTION : | Source: | Hunterian Museum | Creator: | Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, University of Glasgow | Identifier: | http://www.huntsearch.gla.ac.uk/cgi-bin/... | Language: | en-GB | Go to resource |
