Description: | HOOPER'S PATENT CORE LONDON (Engraved on both brass end caps of the glass container). HOOPER'S PATENT CORE. SPECIMEN OF SUBMARINE TELEGRAPH CORE MANUFACTURED IN 1868. IT HAS BEEN OBTAINED FROM SHORT PIECES OF CABLE RECOVERED FROM THE INDO-EUROPEAN GOVT. TELEGRAPH LINE IN VARIOUS REPAIRS DURING THE LAST FEW YEARS. LONDON, DEC., 1887. (printed on a paper label wrapped round the core). Found in box marked "KC 10 plus Hooper specimen KC3, 4 on show 6-81". A label found inside the box bears the legend "5 specimens of early cable given by Dr Isabel F. Gough, 8. Jan. 1962, as relics from her Uncle Will. Falconer King (Ref S.P. Thompson).
