Description: | RU CRE REMBRANDT, Harmensz van Rijn; (Dutch; 1606-1669) Abraham Francen (1612-after 1678) was an Amsterdam apothecary and a close friend of Rembrandt's. Rembrandt shows him in his study, admiring a print from his collection. There are paintings on the wall behind. Francen has lifted a print from an album on his carpet-covered table to examine it in the light from the window. This portrait dates from the years after Rembrandt's bankruptcy, when he moved to the Jordaan area of the city, where Francen also lived. This is a good, posthumous, impression of the plate. | License: | http://www.hmag.gla.ac.uk/spirit/rights/ | Publisher: | Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, University of Glasgow | Rights holder: | Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, University of Glasgow | Subjects: | APOTHECARY : PORTRAIT : ART COLLECTOR : TRIPTYCH : SKULL : BUDDHA : | Source: | Hunterian Museum | Creator: | Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, University of Glasgow | Identifier: | http://www.huntsearch.gla.ac.uk/cgi-bin/... | Language: | en-GB | Go to resource |
