Description: | DES MACKINTOSH, Charles Rennie; (Scottish; 1868-1928) This high-backed chair was originally designed as a dark-stained item for Miss Cranston's tea rooms in Ingram Street, Glasgow. Mackintosh chose to paint it white to accompany the handsome white desk (41220) in the drawing room of the Mackintoshes' flat at 120 Mains Street, Glasgow. The only difference is that this one has a removable beading around the back of each of the square cut-outs, which was possibly used to hold a piece of coloured glass. The image shows the item on display at The Mackintosh House in the Hunterian Art Gallery. | License: | http://www.hmag.gla.ac.uk/spirit/rights/ | Publisher: | Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, University of Glasgow | Rights holder: | Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, University of Glasgow | Subjects: | FURNITURE : CHAIR : HIGH BACK CHAIR : DRAWING ROOM : DECORATIVE ART : 120 MAINS STREET, GLASGOW : 78 SOUTHPARK AVENUE, GLASGOW : INGRAM STREET TEA ROOMS, GLASGOW : CRANSTON, CATHERINE : 78 SOUTHPARK AVENUE, GLASGOW : | Source: | Hunterian Museum | Creator: | Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, University of Glasgow | Identifier: | http://www.huntsearch.gla.ac.uk/cgi-bin/... | Language: | en-GB | Go to resource |
