Description: | DES MACKINTOSH, Charles Rennie; (Scottish; 1868-1928) The stand is based on a design for the Luncheon, Smoking and Billiards Rooms, 'Miss Cranston's' tea rooms, Argyle Street (1898-9). Mackintosh also designed stands for 'Miss Cranston's Tea Rooms', Ingram Street (1900) and the Willow Tea Rooms (1904). Note the simple plank structure and the decorative twists of ironwork. The recesses in the base were for drip trays for umbrellas.
